Rodeo has always been something in the Ashland NE. Roberts Family blood. Growing up with a father that spent every waking moment team roping as well as watching elders saddle bronc riding, it wasn't hard to guess if Jess and his brother would take an interest in the circuit. To add more to the sport, the family trained race horses from 1983 to 1990. Jess can recall many early mornings galloping on the track until the ripe of age of 15 years of age when an unfortunate incident occurred and his father's Sorrel gelding nearly killed his dad as he flipped over backwards off while dallied to a steer. The saddle horn caused damage to Buster Roberts that caused him to sell his roping horse, and still today has effects on his health, causing him to never again team rope.

Jesse stepped into a different role at the Roberts Ranch, tending to the every day animal chores and cutting hay while his dad spent months in intensive care. He began attending Little Britches Rodeos, first in team roping, until they could no longer afford to own and haul horses. Eventually he and Will began Bull riding, and Jesse made it to the Mid States Finals in 1994. When Will won the Ashland Bull Riding in 1995, they two decided to purchase some cows and a bull with his earnings. One bull led to several bulls as the two continued to buy enough stock to support their own rodeo company. From 1996 to 2000, Jess and Will were proud owners of several quality bulls and a 1969 Trans Star International

truck and pot that traveled to rodeos in Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

In 2000, Vicki met Jesse and Will at the Burwell Rodeo where Will was still competing in Bull Riding with his brother's support at his side. Jesse moved to Malcolm and in 2004 and Vicki and Jesse purchased Bar Star Ranch, 80 acres of land overlooking Pawnee Lake. During this time, they had an opportunity to buy Bar 12, a Delane Long Bull, who Jesse had great respect for. Jesse was familiar with Bar 12's lineage and that he had produced quality cows and bulls for Delane and Vicki Long. Many of these bulls were those that Jesse and Will had grown up riding in the rodeo arena.

The passing of Bar 12 in June of 2009 was a sad day as he was a member of the family and is owed credit for several quality cows and bulls that are being offered for sale today. The Ranch truly is full of Bar 12 Star's and we are proud he is the basis for our Ranch name.
